THE FINAL YEARS-
By 1930, Casati had amassed a personal debt of $25 million. Unable to satisfy her creditors, her personal possessions were auctioned off. Rumour has it that among the bidders was Coco Chanel. Luisa fled to London, where she lived in comparative poverty. She was rumoured to be seen rummaging in bins searching for feathers to decorate her hair. She died in London on 1 June 1957, and was interred in Brompton Cemetery. The quote "Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale her infinite variety" from Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra was inscribed on her tombstone. She was buried wearing not only her black and leopardskin finery but a pair of false eyelashes. She also shares her coffin with one of her beloved stuffed pekinese dogs. Her tombstone is a small grave marker in the shape of an urn draped in cloth with a swag of flowers to the front. The inscription strangely mis-spells her name as 'Louisa' rather than 'Luisa'. It's a very hard grave to find and despite her fame, wealth and notoriety is very modest compared to the thousands of grand monuments within Brompton Cemetery.
I'm not really into this hobo look. I do like the make-up in the 2nd pic. I used to rock that look in all different colors. Twas fun.....this look reminds me of Hobo Kelly. For those of you who are too young for Hobo Kelly I will share a sample in my final blog for the day. I will be MIA for most of the week so enjoy! Can't we to see my girl on True Blood! Makin stuff for Allison,Paris and La La well you know who.
Esther Wong was born August 13, 1917 in Shanghai, China, and emigrated to the U.S. in 1949. She was a punk rock and New Wave music promoter. She got started as the owner of “Madame Wong’s” clubs, and when Polynesian bands weren’t filling her restaurants, she decided to try booking rock bands in 1978. Notable bands that she showcased included a “who’s who” of rock music. They included The Knack, The Police, The Motels, The Go-Go's, Naughty Sweeties, Oingo Boingo, The WILD, The Kats/The Nu Kats,The Wigs, Daniel Amos, The Kempsters, Guns N' Roses, X, Black Flag, Fear, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Glass Target and The Ramones. Eventually this led to her nickname, the “Godmother of Punk.” She closed the original “Madame Wong’s” in 1985 and “Madame Wong’s West” in Santa Monica, California in 1991.
Several years ago I had a mad obsession with Marion Davies and Hearst Castle in San Simeon. I would go every few weeks and make the tour- Watching Citizen Kane the other day reminded me of the rooms in this gorgeous place. Boudoir Dolls can also be found in the movie. If you come to Boudoir Queen studio's in Austin we have displayed prominatley a huge photo from MGM of Marion Davies in our foyer. If you have time somewhere in my blog archives I have several blogs and books on the subject. For now-enjoy
I've been sort of MIA the past week. Something really exciting has happened. Probably the biggest thing in our designing career. Hopefully by the end of next week I may be able to talk more about it. For now we are crazy busy!! My shop update will have to be put on hold for now.
So my fabulous design assistant who has been with me for so long is a GENIUS. Re-creating the ribbonwork flowers on my green boudoir pillow was easily done. It was applied to our new silver and blue design.( I'm not showing it in full for reasons that are obvious to everyone now) We have many things we will be listing. We are finishing up a design for a video and then we will rock the new pieces on our website full tilt boogie.
I've been deep in the depths of dying . It's a sea of colors. The new style Harem Suit is going to be stunning. With the help of one of my favorite clients I've decided on the perfect color. I'm using several new dye techniques that I've learned. I can't wait to share. BTW I've confirmed a huge shoot on the 30th. It's going to be amazing.
