Graduation day was utter chaos. The Lakers won the Championship and decided to have their parade at the same place as the graduation downtown. TWO MILLION PEOPLE went to the parade. All the roads were closed so we had to take an alternate route. We didn't let this spoil our big day. The ceremony was amazing. I cried. I didn't get a photo of Dylan close up in his cap and gown. He was tired and already had it off when he came outside of the auditorium. Dylan will go to Santa Monica College. I have most of the footage on video. You can see him and his girlfriend Samantha on the screen sort of-
We went across the street from the hotel to Grauman's Chinese Theater. Mumsy laughed " you lived here for 30 years and you never took pictures here before" well I didn't have a blog then ; ) All of the photos below I took except of course The Gentleman Prefer Blondes Pics. I love the photo of Betty Grable's leg- I noticed on the cement it's really fading. In a few years it will probably be gone.
Dylan and I waiting for the car. BTW I have discovered that my mini kimono is with a doubt the best thing to wear while traveling. I wore it on the plane-on the beach-by the pool and as a jacket at night. You know when you arrive and the doorman says what a lovely kimono at The Roosevelt you are looking good. The doorman has seen it all! I even had complements at the airport. It makes the perfect bathing suit cover up as well. I have to say I brought so many outfits that I never wore. EVERYONE in L.A. wears jeans nothing has changed. Long blonde hair and jeans with big sunglasses. I feel like I can dress a lot crazier in Austin for sure. California living is very casual low key.
Dylan was excited I bought him tickets to THE ELECTRIC DAISY music festival so he was ready to go!
Mark Racco his girlfriend and my Mark. The other Mark is very talented. He also used to be married to Terri Nunn of the 80's band Berlin (Take my Breath Away). Mark and him have known each other since the Billy days. Speaking of Billy he's playing in Houston so we will see him. It's always a fun time!
We adore Karen at BQ. She is such a doll. We loved making her very special headbands for the Citizens Band. She bought several pieces from our Etsy shop. Crystal Jewels and Cuffs. This shoot reminds me of a shoot we did that Patty Griffin Styled for us for Austin Monthly.
I can't wait to see our best man and best friend Keith when we get to L.A. The Roosevelt is going to be filled with crazy amazing energy this week! Here's a little bit about him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Forsey Pretty in Pink Poison Dress Modeled by Wednesday -Mark Younger Smith Photography
Dress revamp from our 2001 collection- Available now on Etsy Ciao!!
We made the entire outfit for Patty for Impossible Dream. As you can see the lace and silk top - skirt and pants were done in the nude palette. Tassel embellishments. The skirt silk. All garments were patterned and designed by BQ. These are not reworked vintage. Her cuff with the giant magnolia flower was on the cover of Paste 2003. I think Patty was one of the first singer/songwriters to embrace the repurpose vintage look. We made all of her clothes at the time and she purchased many amazing dresses which can be seen below in the photos. I have so many pictures of Patty. The photos of the red and brown piano shawl Koi top was featured in the Elle article. If you go thru my archives you can find a lot more. Such a talent!
