I'm "getting my Blog on" today. These photos reminding me of what will be going on over the next few weeks. This week I will be at my studio every day getting ready for the big event. (dresses in the process of being made last year)
Graduation day was utter chaos. The Lakers won the Championship and decided to have their parade at the same place as the graduation downtown. TWO MILLION PEOPLE went to the parade. All the roads were closed so we had to take an alternate route. We didn't let this spoil our big day. The ceremony was amazing. I cried. I didn't get a photo of Dylan close up in his cap and gown. He was tired and already had it off when he came outside of the auditorium. Dylan will go to Santa Monica College. I have most of the footage on video. You can see him and his girlfriend Samantha on the screen sort of-
We don't do (Upcycling or Revamping) as much as we would like. It would be easy for us to do this all day long and the garments would be a lot less expensive as it does not take as long to make. Although we spent a lot of time on this and the attention to detail is quite intricate. At BQ we call this technique re-purposed vintage. Reworking slips is fun and very artistic. So much so that Elle Magazine did an article on our slips and jeans. We certainly have it down to a science. Some of my all time favs are slips we have re-purposed. Now since 2009 we are using a lot of high end textiles fabrics with the oldest of old antique fabrics. We love distressing the fabric ourselves and making our own patterns. You can see this technique on many of our bustle dresses. I'm posting a few of my favorite re-purposed garments by Boudoir Queen over the years. We are still making our Cherry Bomb bed jackets and tap feathered tap pants. Our re-purposed slips are available on our website and Etsy from time to time. Especially during the spring/summer season. We are also experts at restoring antique clothing. We do a lot of this at our studio. In the next photo the grey dress is re-purposed the black not.
This was our last show- all garments are patterned and constructed by BOUDOIR QUEEN this is not re-vamped vintage. All fabrics are vintage textiles. You will see our fabulous Justine in our upcoming show!
We went across the street from the hotel to Grauman's Chinese Theater. Mumsy laughed " you lived here for 30 years and you never took pictures here before" well I didn't have a blog then ; ) All of the photos below I took except of course The Gentleman Prefer Blondes Pics. I love the photo of Betty Grable's leg- I noticed on the cement it's really fading. In a few years it will probably be gone.
I've decided to use 9 models instead of 6 for our fashion Show- I will be contacting Models for another Call - I will be needing 3 more with runway experience. I am looking for a certain style. Please contact me at email@example.com I am going thru models photos and contacting people as well.
remember when I said on my blog I was doing my hair like this for my show LOLz.....Laurel had hers done for the show a couple of months ago at Bumble and Bumble in New York. It looks divine. I think I posted a pic a few weeks ago. I'm thrilled she is going to fly out and model. She is too gorgeous for words! I also have other model news-I can't wait to spill the beans!
Oh and I've decided against this look for me I have something that will be extra dramatic!
Dylan and I waiting for the car. BTW I have discovered that my mini kimono is with a doubt the best thing to wear while traveling. I wore it on the plane-on the beach-by the pool and as a jacket at night. You know when you arrive and the doorman says what a lovely kimono at The Roosevelt you are looking good. The doorman has seen it all! I even had complements at the airport. It makes the perfect bathing suit cover up as well. I have to say I brought so many outfits that I never wore. EVERYONE in L.A. wears jeans nothing has changed. Long blonde hair and jeans with big sunglasses. I feel like I can dress a lot crazier in Austin for sure. California living is very casual low key.
Dylan was excited I bought him tickets to THE ELECTRIC DAISY music festival so he was ready to go!
Mark Racco his girlfriend and my Mark. The other Mark is very talented. He also used to be married to Terri Nunn of the 80's band Berlin (Take my Breath Away). Mark and him have known each other since the Billy days. Speaking of Billy he's playing in Houston so we will see him. It's always a fun time!
A little more fashion week news. I'm so happy the team picking went well and as planned! The kick off event will be fun. Many are asking why I'm not on a team- Advisory Board Members and Judges can't be on teams.I'm looking forward to the whole event especially the 21st which you are going to being hearing a lot more about in the near future. Some really awesome designers that I'm looking forward to working with! YEAH!!!!
We adore Karen at BQ. She is such a doll. We loved making her very special headbands for the Citizens Band. She bought several pieces from our Etsy shop. Crystal Jewels and Cuffs. This shoot reminds me of a shoot we did that Patty Griffin Styled for us for Austin Monthly.
We are away for a week. I may blog from L.A. but I'm not sure that I will have the time. I'll post lot's of photos when I return and will have lots of new fabrics for Fall- CIAO!!! Model Boudoir Queen Photographer Steven Arnold
