For the last few months I've been hinting around about my "New Look" Well today I'm happy to announce that the fabulous Alexandra Valenti will be giving us just that. She's shooting our 2011 lookbook. You may know her from the fabulous photos from The gorgeous Sisters of The Black Moon site. Here are a few of her photos and you can see her gorge website here. I've been wanting to share but things have been a little hectic in case you haven't heard. http://alexandraintheforest.com/
Two more left of this shape and that's it! I'm off to a fabulous dinner party with our friends that own one of our favorite places to eat and hang out! Goodnite all! Thanks for all the facebook love today ; )
Ok.......I've kinda stopped posting these because it's a little out of control but here's a couple from today. They both featured the style was was talking about in a previous blog. Everyone want's this dress!! Thanks for including me in all your treasury's xox
All of these styles will be available again-of coarse each is one of a kind. We have been getting a lot of requests for these looks and since they were a little ahead of their time....this season we will bringing them back! Read about it on my facebook. BTW I did let 100 or so people onto my private facebook the other day. We will make SC announcements there as well.
I've been collecting "Pannier Dresses" for awhile now and I'm going to be making a few in styles like I've done in the past. I think it's our most popular look to date. Look at these gorgeous teaser pics. I was up at 7 and went to an amazing Edwardian Estate sale this morning. I'm boxing everything to take to the shop. I'm also redecorating my studio. It's a nightmare from the photo shoot. We will all be working in full force next week ; )
It truly is an honor being on the advisory board for Austin Fashion week. I can't wait until next year and I have to say I already have a jump start on it. Here are some of the pictures from the event last August. We have a couple of garments left on our website. Our past few collections have been made and patterned by us using new textiles hand dyed and manipulated. The gold dress was 20's lame' very difficult to work with. It took hours and hours of tedious work. I'm so excited and thrilled to be doing our designs for The Secret Circus entirely out of antique fabrics my passion. I've been collecting vintage since I was 16. That's 30 years OMG a frightening thought! My customers of coarse love vintage and so do I. It's soooooo hard for me to keep my mouth closed about what's happening right now and it is even harder to not show all of you the fabulous textiles and gowns for this event. Even today I struck gold and found some of the most gorgeous art deco beading I have ever bought. Since 1997 I have been doing a certain style that is "The Look of Boudoir Queen" I hope to be bring that to you at our grand event coming this Valentines Day. I'm excited a few of my customers will be flying in. I can't wait to tell everyone where it will be held as we have changed venues. I'm hoping that the entire website www.secretcircus.net will be complete by December 1st. We have a team of people working to make this happen. We will be having a large scale model call for this event. Up to 14 models. There will be 3 bands-fashion-acrobats and much more! That's all for now xox BQ
I have a huge day today. Mark and I have had colds that we got on the plane. We are up and around today (sort of). Just letting all the sellers that I buy from know that I am buying right now. As you all know I'm starting on the fabulous Secret Circus Fashion show wardrobe/costume design. Feel free to contact me with pre 30's textiles and garments. Now I'm off to look at some antique clothing and hit some of my fav stores in town. Have a great weekend everyone!
This is one of my fav shopping spots in Malibu. It was great seeing friends. I love having lunch at Nobu and shopping around. I have to thank the lovely Tracey Ross for helping my husband find a dentist. She's a dear. There are still a lot of nice people in L.A.
I'm letting my hair grow out including my roots and it's a tedious task! I saw so much pretty hair on my trip I feel inspired. My friend Antoinette has hair almost to her ankles. I would be happy just to have my bangs long again.
...so, in the past few years they have been referring to this day - the day after Thanksgiving as Black Friday. Wide Americans in their bad t-shirts camp out in line at the big box stores to storm "La Bastille" and pull everything off the shelves in the guise of buying at discount prices. Now, they're trying to combat this day with a special promotion tomorrow called "Small Business Saturday". What I think is unfair is that today, the unsightly, reckless, unsophisticated battle has claimed the glorious non-color of Black for their moniker and tomorrow we (our small, independently run businesses) are stuck with a generic, unoriginal name...I assume you know how I feel about this. AND, another thing - I had a call from a local TV station the other day to comment on this Saturday's "SBS"..."as a small business owner, will you promoting and participating in this wonderfully local event, by slashing your prices to bring customers into shop at your boutique?" Why? No. I work hard. Every small business owner that I know does, too. We are not about to compete with WalMart's $1.99 specials while we slave over our original products, our merchandising and our beautiful displays - never mind paying our loyal employees more than minimum wage. I hope that my customers will understand that I try to offer them the best product for their money and don't have the 1000% mark-up that would enable me to slash their retail price down to just a few more cents more than what I would be paying a child in a third world country for production. Sigh...
