Tomorrow's Parties

Even though the event is over (until Aspen) we are still crazy busy. The film of the event will be finished March 31st. I have press and interviews all day Thursday which means I need to hire a cleaning crew to get my boutique back in order. Having a PR firm has been wonderful for me. It's made my life so much easier. We have pretty much sold out of the entire line in 24 hrs. I have maybe 4 garments left. I will be working until March 3rd and then my time off will begin. I can't wait. First SXSW then a vacation and finally house hunting if all goes as planned. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I want to thank everyone for making our event a huge success. We will be having another in Austin next year!

A few days ago I received an apology about snarky remarks left on my blog. Just as I thought a certain person put this unknowing person up to it.This is part of the ongoing harassment I've had to endure over the past few years. I'm not going to post the letter. I thought it interesting she mentioned she thought my designs were clearly inspired by early Alexander McQueen Designs. I thought this would be a good blog topic and a chance to talk about my true mentor.As much as I liked Alexander McQueen I can say without a doubt he was never an inspiration for Boudoir Queen designs. Steven Arnold has always been my inspiration along with the Art Dolls. Working with Steven was the most creative period of my life thus far. I love the photos below and I even see some Gaga in his Luminouos Procuress movie. Photo below-Steven and Dali

The first time I met Angela Bowie was also the first night I met Steven Arnold. Steven's friend Joanne Fradkin who is still one of my best friends invited me to a huge party that Steven was throwing in Hollywood. She always kept saying "Steven will adore you you have to meet him and be his next muse" When I arrived I couldn't believe my eyes! Live models in crazy attire. Just big time eye-candy. There was a huge circus like tent that seemed to be the center of the happening. I walk in and there is Angela Bowie as part of the entertainment doing a fabulous exotic dance of some sort. Anyway I met her and Steven of course and the rest is history.
I do remember that when I finally got home I couldn't sleep. My mind was reeling. I had never whitnessed such decadence and most likely never again.

Angela Bowie (born Mary Angela Barnett in 1949 in Cyprus) is an American citizen who has been a covergirl, model, actress, musician, groupie and, most recently, a best-selling author.

Angela is of English (father) and Greek Cypriot (mother) descent. Her father, Col. G. M. Barnett, was a mining engineer and ran a mill for Cyprus Mines Corporation. Her mother was Helena Marie Galas. Angela has one older brother.
Educated in United States, Switzerland and Kingston Polytechnic (UK), she grew up in the US, where she attended Connecticut College For Women until she was expelled for having a lesbian affair with another student.
Relationship with David Bowie

She met David Bowie in 1969, at the age of 19. According to David Bowie, they met when they were both "fucking the same bloke" (Asian record executive Calvin Mark Lee). She married him one year later, on March 19, 1970 at Bromley Register Office in Beckenham Lane, Kent in England, where she took his stage surname. On 30 May 1971, David and Angie Bowie had a son they named Duncan Zowie Haywood Jones. Zowie later preferred to be known as Joe/Joey, although now he has reverted to the name Duncan Jones.
David Bowie wrote the songs "The Prettiest Star" and "Golden Years" about her.
Angie and David Bowie separated after eight years of marriage and divorced on February 8, 1980, in Switzerland. Angie, later citing it as "a marriage of convenience" for both, settled for £300,000. She then began a long-term relationship with punk musician Drew Blood (real name Andrew Lipka) and on July 24, 1980 gave birth to their daughter, Stacia Larranna Celeste Lipka, in Mendocino, California.
Later life

Angie wrote an autobiographical bestseller, Backstage Passes: Life On the Wild Side with David Bowie, published in 1993 and updated in 2000. It detailed her drug-fueled and openly bisexual lifestyle with her former husband and many other well-known rockers. In the book, she tells of her notorious first-hand encounter seeing David and Mick Jagger naked in bed together, confirming the long-standing rumours of sexual encounters between them.
She released an album, Moon Goddess, on Subterraneans' London based record label The Electric Label in 2002. The UK release of the album contained a duet with Subterraneans' vocalist Jude Rawlins on a version of the Rolling Stones song "The Last Time". She is currently working on her second album, Fancy Footwork.Fictional portrayals

The movie Velvet Goldmine was loosely based on her life with David Bowie. She was fictionalized as a character named "Mandy", portrayed by Toni Collette

As I was looking at magazine editorials I came across these photos of Tennesee Jane Bunny Thomas (of the band THE LIKE) shot by Melodie McDaniel and styled by Christopher Niquet. She just happens to be Cali's friend who I just blogged about. We made Tennesee a fabulous cuff. I love these photos! If you get a chance to see THE LIKE they are fabulous. She plays the drums. Her father is Elvis Costello's drummer. It's an all girl band and they are pretty great!

If you have followed my collections over the past couple of years you will notice that I use a certain model in many of my shoots. Her name is Cali Sales. Cali is an amazing model and a very talented artist! She is one of our favorite people! Cali comes from an interesting background. Just think how awesome it would be to have David Bowie be your babysitter when you were a child! Her father Hunt Sales was part of the band Tin Machine with David Bowie. He also played with Iggy Pop (lust for Life) For those of you who are a little older you may remember who her famous grandfather Soupy Sales who had several of his own television shows. Here is a little Bio of Soupy and sons.

Game Shows From 1968 to 1975 Sales was a regular panelist on the syndicated revival of What's My Line?. He generally was the first panelist introduced and occupied the chair at the far left side of the panel (facing the camera).

Sales was also a panelist on the short-lived 1980 revival of To Tell the Truth; he had also appeared as a guest on the show during the mid- to late-1970s. Other notable game show appearances include over a dozen episodes of the original "Match Game" from 1966 to 1969, a week's worth of shows on the 1970s edition of Match Game, a few guest spots on Hollywood Squares (Dec. 12, 1977 & April 4, 1978) and a recurring role in all of the many different dollar amount versions of The $10,000 Pyramid from 1973 to 1991. He also made an appearance on the show Pictionary in 1997.

In 1977, Sales was the host of "Junior Almost Anything Goes," ABC's Saturday Morning version of their popular team-based physical stunt program.

His sons' activities

Soupy's sons, musicians Hunt and Tony Sales, played bass and drums in the band Tin Machine with David Bowie, as well as playing on the albums Runt by Todd Rundgren and Lust For Life by Iggy Pop. Both sons had a band together in Detroit while their father was still in TV there. The band, Tony and the Tigers, had a local hit with the song Turn it On Girl. Tony and the Tigers also appeared on the TV show Hullabaloo in 1966. Hunt Sales created the percussion riff for "Lust for Life" that has been used in numerous commercials.

Legacy

Soupy Sales was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on January 7, 2005, a day before his 79th birthday.

In the episode "The One with the Lesbian Wedding" of the TV-series Friends, Phoebe mentions Soupy Sales while supposedly being inhabited by the spirit of her dead massage client.

In the film Juno (2007), Soupy is referenced during the scene where Juno confronts Bleeker about taking another girl to prom. Juno had earlier suggested he go out with her, but he said he didn't like her because she smelled like soup. Later, when Juno realizes she loves him, she calls his date Soupy Sales.
